Childhood memories – Noel Godman

Noel Godman, born 1927Noel Godman lived in St Julians Road as a child and recalls playing in the Cottonmill Lane area. He has vivid memories of the gasworks and of the trains coming in and out from the Abbey station and the shunting of the coal and coke trucks. He used to collect creosote in a jam jar from the gasworks.

    You must remember the steam lorry going between the works I would grab hold of the tailgate for a easy ride up the church .I would turn left for home happy days Alan roe ex 135watlng st
