Alan Beardmore used to live in Wallingford Walk at number 24 and has many happy memories of “seeing lots of Dakotas flying over on there way to Bovingdon presumably the Berlin Airlift; seeing an electrical storm; John Derry the DH Test Pilot flying over – he died in a crash at Farnborough, I think. My father mother and brother used to sit at a table and play train spotting trains on both the flyer line and the main line. I remember seeing trains on the Hatfield line too – one used to wake us up as it was held up at a signal waiting to get into the Abbey Station”.
