Making shelters – John Buckingham

John BuckinghamJohn and his mates tells of digging holes in the ground and making shelters where they would light fires and cook potatoes. This was in their play area where the Sopwell Youth Club is now. They would cover them with strips of corrugated iron and turf and he wonders whether anybody remembers these smoking holes in the ground.

I have just discovered John (bucket) Buckingham on line. I was one of those who used to dig the underground shelters. I remember John very well. Is it possible for you to put me in contact with John. You can pass my email address on to him if you wish. Many thanks.

    Dave Tibbett.
