John Buckingham recounts the history of the building and the use of the St Albans Boys Club, known as the youth club, behind Leyland Avenue. It was built on an area of land which was used by the local children for all sorts of outdoor play and sport, so the youth club building was not welcomed. It was not designed very well and frequently vandalised and the council found it difficult to maintain. John and his friend Doug Dorling tried to keep it running but eventually it fell into disuse.
Since this interview, the club was demolished and the land is now a housing development – Jenny Lane – which opened in 2024
