I knew that one day I would find someone who could give an explanation as to why the river Ver near New Barnes Mill is also called the Tar. Denis asked this question when he was a child and the answer is obvious! He shares more memories of the river and of going to fill his water bottle in Flint Cottages crossing over a very rickety bridge over the river. He describes how he found out that some of his family, name of Stratton, used to live in these cottages.
