St Julian’s Estate – Margaret Brown

Margaret recalls that after building the Cottonmill Estate, St Julian’s was built. She said that there was no access to the estate other than by foot because of the cattle bridge in what is now Abbots Avenue. Over the cattle bridge were fields for a long time then they built St Julian’s. Potatoes, wheat and corn were grown in the fields which stretched from the top field (now Trumpington Drive) right down to the North Orbital. The bridge was reinforced and then the bus could go there. When the bus service first started, it used to be circular. It used to go down Prospect Road
