More childhood memories – Gloria Morris

Gloria MasonIn the 1930s and 1940s, children were allowed to wander around freely. Everyone looked after each other especially during the war years when the men were away Gloria has memories of cycling down the winding lane that was Cottonmill Lane as it was not a high road then. The St Julian’s area was all fields and cornfields as the estate had yet to be built. Before they moved into Nuns Lane, Gloria’s family lived in Bardwell Road. It had gas but no electricity and they had to take candles to bed. Everyone saved their scraps for the pigs and her neighbours even kept ducks.
