Living in Pemberton Close – Brian Welch

Brian resizedBrian’s family moved into a brand new council property in Pemberton Close in 1950 when he was four and a half years old. He talks about his mother, Amy Welch, who was a well-loved character in the street and who used to do a lot for the Sunday school in the Nissen huts in the alleyway behind Tavistock Avenue. He also remembers  Wally the milkman who had been a prisoner of war in Japan, the Coronation street party, Charlie the baker’s man from Sheppards, collecting jumble with the Church Lads Brigade and the building of the cinder path at the bottom of Pemberton Close.
